Birthday is a very strange day.
For most people, this day affirms their being, that they are real and unique, especially if the whole world keeps reminding them that this is their special day. We can however turn this day into a day of Dhamma practice. If mindfulness has always been a challenge, today the whole world can help you bring your mind to the present. Every birthday greeting can be turned into a reminder to bring the mind back to the present and you spend that few precious minutes telling yourself, mind made reality: “not mine, not I and no-self”.
Our mood should be relatively good today. Use that joy to hold and cultivate kusala the whole day.
Every hour, ever so often, abide in the Brahmavihara. Take this day to be of service to others.
As you receive well wishes, reflect on your own blessings and as much as you feel gratitude,
give back that much.
Human life is precious.
Living in an age of Dhamma is precious.
Having the conditions to practise is precious.
Having the wisdom to learn and understand is infinitely precious.
Life is complete as is.
May you be well and happy.
May you taste nibbana in this very life.
